Responsible for the cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instruments and medical equipment, ensuring their proper functionality and sterility to prevent infection within a healthcare facility, adhering to strict guidelines and protocols established by regulatory agencies. This role involves collecting used and contaminated equipment, instruments, and supplies for sorting and decontamination, manually cleaning supplies, and operating decontamination equipment. The technician will also prepare and pack decontaminated supplies for sterilization, monitor and operate sterilization equipment, and act as a preceptor for new employees. A key part of the role is meticulously examining supplies to ensure they are properly cleaned and sanitized, testing and reporting any issues with sterilization equipment, and sterilizing, preparing, wrapping, and organizing equipment into instrument trays. Additionally, the technician will prepare and deliver necessary equipment and instruments for surgeries and other medical procedures, maintain records of sterilization procedures and equipment maintenance, and control inventory, reordering supplies and checking expiration dates. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment, and the employee is accountable for satisfying all job-specific obligations and complying with organizational policies and procedures.
