About The Position

A-Team Solutions is seeking Sterile Processing Technicians for services at the VAMC in Jacksonville, FL. This is a full-time position.

Requirements

  • Certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or higher by International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM).
  • Graduation from a nationally recognized CRCST training program with a minimum of 2 current years of documented work in the field.
  • Graduation from a nationally recognized Operating Room Technician training program with a minimum of 2 current years of documented work experience in a Sterile Processing Service environment.
  • Graduation from a US military training program for Surgical Technicians with a minimum of 2 current years of documented work experience in a Sterile Processing Service environment.
  • Practical knowledge of theory, principles, practice and techniques of asepsis to prevent the spread of infection.
  • Practical knowledge of microbiology and its principles as they apply to surgical supply operations.
  • Working knowledge of standard procedures for steam autoclaving.
  • Working knowledge of standard procedures for use of chemical sterilization such as Sterrad.
  • Working knowledge of standard procedures for use of HLD systems such as Medivator Advantage, Trophon, and manual HLD utilizing Cidex OPA.
  • Awareness and capability of performing daily testing and quality assurance procedures associated with HLD devices and chemicals.
  • Good working knowledge of the availability, economics, use, operation, maintenance, assembly and disassembly of the full range of surgical supplies, instruments, equipment and their specific cleaning, sterilizing and storage requirements.
  • Very broad knowledge of all types of surgical and clinical instrumentation, including sufficient working knowledge to identify damaged or broken instruments.
  • Knowledge of surgical specialty instrumentation including a minimum of general and laparoscopic instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of medical and surgical terminology, human anatomy, and physiology.
  • Thorough knowledge of aseptic principles and techniques including characteristics of various types of detergents, and cleaning techniques.
  • Knowledge of the proper handling, cleaning, and reprocessing for use of flexible endoscopes such as colonoscopes and gastroscopes.
  • Ability to follow detailed, step-by-step manufacturer instructions for handling, cleaning, and sterilization or HLD processing of Reusable Medical Equipment (RME).
  • Capability of performing all physical demands of the SPS department.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand the English language.
  • Capability of working in a loud environment with occasional very loud noises.
  • Capability of wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for 8 hours of a duty day with normal rest and meal breaks.
  • Capability of working in a hot and humid environment while wearing PPE.
  • Capability of performing repetitive work for long periods of time.
  • Flexibility and ability to change tasks at a moment’s notice.

Responsibilities

  • Prevent the spread of infection through practical knowledge of asepsis principles.
  • Apply knowledge of microbiology to surgical supply operations, understanding how microorganisms resist sterilization agents.
  • Perform standard procedures for steam autoclaving, including biological testing, use of chemical indicators, Bowie-Dick tests, and recording results.
  • Perform standard procedures for chemical sterilization (e.g., Sterrad), including biological testing, use of chemical indicators, routine maintenance, and recording results.
  • Utilize High Level Disinfection (HLD) systems (e.g., Medivator Advantage, Trophon, manual HLD with Cidex OPA) and perform associated testing and quality assurance.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of the availability, economics, use, operation, maintenance, assembly, and disassembly of surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment, including their specific cleaning, sterilizing, and storage requirements.
  • Identify damaged or broken instruments and find suitable replacements.
  • Possess broad knowledge of all types of surgical and clinical instrumentation, including general and laparoscopic instrumentation.
  • Understand medical and surgical terminology, human anatomy, and physiology.
  • Apply thorough knowledge of aseptic principles and techniques, including characteristics of detergents and cleaning methods.
  • Properly handle, clean, and reprocess flexible endoscopes (e.g., colonoscopes, gastroscopes).
  • Follow manufacturer instructions for handling, cleaning, sterilization, or HLD processing of Reusable Medical Equipment (RME).
  • Perform all physical demands of the Sterile Processing Service (SPS) department.
  • Read, write, and understand the English language.
