About The Position

The Sterile Processing Tech plays an integral part in the day-to-day operation of the SPD department by delivering an efficient and flexible service. This role involves safely decontaminating, inspecting, packaging, and autoclaving medical instrument sets to provide sterile equipment for end-users, ensuring that the service meets operational targets and achieves appropriate quality standards.

Requirements

  • High School Education or GED required.
  • Knowledge of equipment function sufficient to be able to determine operational adequacy and to distinguish between operator error and equipment malfunction.
  • Knowledge of applicable sanitary, infection control, and safety standards sufficient to be able to perform all assignments within the safety parameters.
  • Key attention to detail required to inspect surgical instruments for cleanliness and functionality.
  • Ability to identify instruments in need of repair or refurbishment and ensure correct process is followed to prevent negative outcomes to the surgical team.
  • Ability to pass background check.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment physical and drug testing.
  • Ability to obtain active licensures per job requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Sterile Processing Certification preferred.
  • 1+ year of surgical experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Safely decontaminate, inspect, package and autoclave medical instrument sets.
  • Ensure sterile equipment is provided for the end user.
  • Meet operational targets and achieve appropriate quality standards.
  • Keep accurate records of sterilization processes to comply with federal and other external regulations by following departmental policies and procedures.
  • Handle sterilized items carefully and properly to ensure sterility is maintained.
  • Promote teamwork by using communication skills to achieve desired outcomes and by demonstrating commitment and involvement among co-workers and other members of the health care team.
  • Maintain professional appearance, behavior, and work environment.
  • Enhance personal and professional development.
  • Comply with safety activities, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements such as OSHA and The Joint Commission.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned for which competency has been demonstrated.
