About The Position

The Sterile Processing Technician reports to the Manager of Sterile Processing. Under general supervision of the department manager, shift supervisor or designee, the Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of instruments in compliance with medical center policies and procedures, state, local and federal requirements. This role is for PRN (as needed) positions at the Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA).

Requirements

Graduate of high school or GED equivalency examination.
Ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of processes.
Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Basic computer skills required.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high pressure health care environment required.
Excellent interpersonal skills required.
Detail-oriented required.
0-1 year experience as SPD Tech.
Certification from IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management) or CRCST - HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution). If not certified upon hire, will have one year to obtain certification.

Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required.
Successful completion of the department’s internal written and practical exam, as well as meeting required performance and productivity standards, is required to attain and maintain Sterile Processing II status.
