About The Position

The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instruments and medical equipment. This role ensures the proper functionality and sterility of these items to prevent infection within a healthcare facility, adhering to strict guidelines and protocols established by regulatory agencies. The technician will collect used and contaminated equipment, instruments, and supplies for sorting and decontamination. They will manually clean supplies, remove waste matter, and operate and maintain decontamination equipment. Preparing and packing decontaminated supplies for sterilization, monitoring and operating sterilization equipment, and acting as a preceptor for new employees are key duties. Meticulously examining supplies to ensure they are properly cleaned and sanitized, testing and reporting any issues with sterilization equipment, and sterilizing, preparing, wrapping, and organizing equipment into instrument trays are also essential. The role involves preparing and delivering necessary equipment and instruments for surgeries, examinations, medical procedures, and medical carts. Maintaining records of sterilization procedures, sterilized items, equipment maintenance, and supplies, as well as controlling inventory, reordering supplies, and checking expiration dates are also part of the responsibilities. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. The technician is accountable for satisfying all job-specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.

Requirements

• CRCST certification required within 18 months of hire, or must meet state grandfathering guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Collecting used and contaminated equipment, instruments, and supplies for sorting and decontamination.
• Manually cleaning supplies of contaminants, removing waste matter, and operating and maintaining decontamination equipment.
• Preparing and packing decontaminated supplies for sterilization.
• Monitoring and operating sterilization equipment.
• Acts as a preceptor new employees.
• Examining supplies meticulously to ensure they are properly cleaned and sanitized.
