About The Position

The Sterile Processing Technician Non Certified position is a full-time role within the Sterile Processing Services department at High Point Medical Center. This role is responsible for operating department machinery, performing decontamination of instruments, inspecting instruments for cleanliness and functionality, assembling and packaging instruments, performing sterilization, maintaining documentation, storing sterile containers, and assembling case carts for the OR. The technician will also participate in surge plans and weekend call, assist team members, and follow policies to prevent the spread of contaminants. The work environment involves exposure to bodily fluids, bloodborne diseases, chemical agents, steam and heat, and can be loud and stressful with frequent interruptions and pressure.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to operate equipment such as the steam sterilizer, low temperature sterilizers, ultrasonic washers, and washer decontaminators
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Proficient communication skills
  • Knowledge of instrument tracking software

Responsibilities

  • Operates all department machinery and promptly reports issues to the Instrument Processing Supervisor or Lead Instrument Technician.
  • Performs manual and/or automated decontamination of instruments.
  • Inspects instruments to ensure cleanliness and proper functionality.
  • Assembles instruments into containers according to count sheets.
  • Packages instruments according to manufacturer's instructions.
  • Performs sterilization and verifies adequacy of the sterilization process.
  • Maintains documentation of sterilization processes.
  • Stores sterile containers in identified location.
  • Assembles case carts according to the picklist and deliver to the OR.
  • Participates in the department's weekday surge plan and weekend call.
  • Assists other team members as needed.
  • Protects self, coworkers, and facility by following policies and procedures concerning the prevention of spreading blood borne and or airborne contaminates/diseases.
