Sterile Processing Technician Lead
About The Position
The Sterile Processing Technician Lead is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the sterile processing cycle, providing guidance and education to Sterile Processing Department (SPD) employees. This role involves assisting the Sterile Processing Supervisor and Manager with daily operations, including maintaining production requirements, managing case carts, communicating instrument needs, ensuring equipment functionality, and maintaining departmental compliance logs and policies. The position also requires participation in special projects and interdepartmental committees, while adhering to safety procedures to prevent the spread of disease.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Two years' experience in Sterile Processing
- Certification as a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT), or other sterile processing certification required.
- Ability to stand for long periods
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
- Ability to work with computer programs such as Excel and others as needed
- Ability to order instruments via PeopleSoft
Nice To Haves
- Certification in Sterile Processing Management strongly encouraged within three years of hire.
Responsibilities
- Expert in all aspects of the sterile processing cycle and ability to provide guidance and education to SPD employees.
- Assumes role and responsibilities of Sterile Processing Supervisor when assigned.
- Assists Sterile Processing Supervisor with maintaining department production requirements by leading and directing SPD employees.
- Assists with case carts management and communicates issues to the Sterile Processing Supervisor.
- Uses excellent communication skills when discussing instrument needs with Sterile Processing Supervisor, SPD Liaisons, and/or OR Clinical Coordinators.
- Ensures that all equipment is functioning optimally and report issues to the Sterile Processing Supervisor and/or the appropriate department.
- Assists the Sterile Processing Supervisor with maintenance of departmental compliance logs.
- Assists SPD Manager with implementation and enforcement of departmental policies.
- Assists with special projects and interdepartmental committees as assigned.
- Protects self, co-workers and facility by following approved policies and procedures to prevent the spread of bloodborne and/or airborne disease(s).
