About The Position

Harborview Medical Center – Central Processing has an outstanding opportunity for a Sterile Processing Technician 2 (Hospital Central Services Technician 2). This position supports Harborview’s Surgical Services / Operating Rooms by decontaminating, processing, sterilizing, and assembling complex surgical instrument arrangements. Harborview’s Central Processing Unit manages the entire workflow of sterile instruments in the medical center and its supported clinics. The CPU is tasked with standardizing and consolidating the processes used to ensure the highest levels of sterility and cleanliness are being met for patients. Utilizing the latest techniques and applying breakthrough technologies, the CPU provides unparalleled support to the Harborview mission of Patients Are First. Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent
  • One to two years of experience processing complex trays of surgical instruments and equipment

Responsibilities

  • Pick up and transport soiled instruments, case carts, basins, respiratory items, and patient equipment from all patient care areas to the decontamination area for reprocessing
  • Assemble and set up patient equipment such as IV pumps, vacuum regulators (wall suction), chest pumps, hyper/hypothermia units; test and make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment
  • Load and operate semi-automatic cart washer to clean case carts, utility carts, patient chairs, etc.
  • Sterilizer function tests using vacuum, chemical and biological indicators
  • Load autoclave carts and sterilize surgical instrument sets and respiratory equipment
  • Inventory shelves of processed items; rotate trays and products; manage expiration dates
  • Load and unload linen carts for steam sterilization
  • Decontaminate all soiled instruments according to Procedure and Policy standards
  • Inspect, test, and assemble package based on the guidelines
  • Scan, document, and label for inspection, testing, and assembly
