About The Position

Responsible for the decontamination, preparation, sterilization and distribution of a variety of surgical instruments, hospital trays and individual items used at the main campus and the Women's campus. Duties assigned are generally complex. Work assignment is performed within an established framework under general instructions but requires simultaneous coordination of assigned functions or projects in various states of completion. Expected to carry assignments through to completion with substantial independence.

Requirements

• High school graduate or GED
• One year of experience in sterile processing operations or in a position that has knowledge of and understands the importance of providing sterilized trays of instruments to customers in a timely manner.
• Minimal computer skills.
• Ability to read, write and speak intelligible English.
• Strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational skills.
• Ability to communicate orally and in written form.
• Must be detail oriented.
• Requires emotional stability and maturity.
• Must be adaptable to change, be decisive, and demonstrate foresight.
• Exhibits organizational and leadership ability.
• Must be team oriented with strong interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

• Certification in sterile processing preferred and encouraged at time of hire or within 12 months of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment.
• Assembles, wraps, and sterilizes trays of instruments.
• Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.
• Sorts mismatched sets of instruments, trays and medical equipment and makes them available to sterile processing customers in a timely manner.
• Restocks, labels and maintains inventory; submits requisitions.
• Collects and distributes instruments, trays, crash carts and facility medical equipment.
• Performs environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, the operating room and in equipment storage areas.
• Assists with maintaining departmental policies and procedures, objectives; and quality improvement, safety and environmental and infection control standards.
• Cleans department and workstations according to department standards in accordance with ARON and AAMI.
• Selects appropriate packing material according to type of sterilization techniques to be used.
• Labels sterilized products with identification and sterilization indicators as in accordance to ARON and AAMI.
