About The Position

Baptist Surgery Center is opening soon and is now hiring a Sterile Processing Technician. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of sterile techniques, instrumentation, identification, and use, and understands the importance of infection prevention. This role ensures equipment is cleaned, inspected, tested, and maintained according to principles of sterile technique, thereby consistently maintaining instrumentation and documentation needed for caseload. The technician will troubleshoot problems related to equipment, supplies, and service, taking appropriate corrective action when a break in technique occurs and informing the appropriate personnel. Caution must be exercised when using chemicals/cleaning fluids that are toxic or caustic, and solid/infectious waste must be collected and delivered to the collection area on time per MSDS and OSHA regulations. The role involves monitoring the operative schedule and communicating with vendors and representatives to ensure required supplies and implants are available for continuity of services. The technician is responsible for maintaining State and Federal sterility paperwork and other needed documentation to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. Regular and predictable attendance and the ability to work cooperatively with others are essential. All other duties as assigned will also be performed.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • 1 year of sterile processing experience is required.
  • Knowledge of methods and procedures for contamination control.
  • Knowledge of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
  • Certified Sterile Processor Certification is required and must be maintained.
  • BLS certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure equipment is cleaned, inspected, tested, and maintained according to principles of sterile technique, thereby consistently maintaining instrumentation and documentation needed for caseload
  • Troubleshoot problems related to equipment, supplies and service. Takes appropriate corrective action when a break in technique occurs and informs the appropriate personnel
  • Exercise caution when using chemicals/cleaning fluids that are toxic or caustic and ensures that solid/infectious waste is collected and delivered to the collection area on time per MSDS and OSHA regulations
  • Monitor operative schedule and communicates with vendors and representatives to ensure required supplies and implants are available for continuity of provisions of services
  • Be responsible for maintaining State and Federal sterility paperwork and other needed documentation to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
