About The Position

The Sterile Processing Tech provides technical expertise and service in processing instrumentation and supplies to ensure they are suitable for patient use on a routine and emergency basis, in accordance with the mission and philosophy of St. Alexius Medical Center. The role assembles, inspects, decontaminates, and prepares instruments and equipment for terminal sterilization, and supports surgical cases by preparing and managing instruments, supplies, and case carts.

Requirements

• High school education or equivalent.
• Central Service Technician Certificate, or ability to obtain the certification within two years of employment.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in the medical field is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Accurately assemble trays, individual instruments, and other items according to manufacturer instructions and departmental policies.
• Inspect instrumentation and equipment to ensure they are clean, sharp, and in good working order.
• Monitor biological and chemical testing, record results, and follow up on positive biological test results.
• Disassemble, sort, soak, and decontaminate instruments and equipment according to established procedures in preparation for terminal sterilization.
• Pick and wand instrumentation and equipment needed for surgical cases and assemble case carts for routine and emergent cases.
• Prioritize cases to prevent procedure delays.
• Check in and wand unused supplies from completed cases, ensure charges are generated, and complete necessary paperwork.
• Receive and dispatch phone calls from the Operating Room(s), and greet and direct people with inquiries.
