About The Position
The Central Processing Technician decontaminates, cleans, packages, and sterilizes instruments, equipment, and other supplies used in the hospital, and maintains appropriate documentation. The role supports patient safety by following infection-control standards and established policies. The position is with Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital’s Central Sterile organization and works Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with rotating weekend and holiday call. Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 1 year of relevant work experience.
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) or Certified Sterile Processing Technician (The Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, Inc.).
Responsibilities
- Decontaminate and clean instruments for the operating room.
- Assemble instrument sets for use in procedures.
- Sterilize instruments.
- Maintain appropriate documentation.
- Follow patient-safety practices, policies, and infection-control standards.
- Maintain equipment and apply predictive maintenance to core products and equipment.
- Support environmental sterility and safety, including providing technical instruction and guidance to coworkers.
- Use surgical equipment and related devices to perform advanced tasks and resolve equipment problems.
- Apply inventory-control practices and provide guidance to coworkers.
- Check work quality, fulfill safety and regulatory requirements, and report unsafe conditions.
- Complete assigned activities responsibly and use accurate information to achieve timely, accurate results.
