About The Position

The Sterile Processing Technician (Inventory & Distribution) reports to the Sterile Processing Manager and supports safe, timely patient care by performing sterile processing functions and maintaining accurate inventory for the Sterile Processing Department. This role monitors par levels and expiration dates, receives and distributes supplies and instrumentation, and supports case-pull and distribution workflows to ensure the right items are available when needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Certification in sterile processing (e.g., CRCST, CSPDT, or equivalent), required.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare environment with purchasing, procurement, materials management, inventory control, or revenue cycle, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform sterile processing functions in accordance with department policies and applicable standards, including decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of instruments and trays as assigned
  • Pull, stage, and distribute case carts and sterile supplies to procedural areas; prioritize urgent/STAT needs and communicate delays or shortages to appropriate staff
  • Accurately submit requisitions for stock and non-stock items, maintain established par levels, and coordinate non-catalog supply needs with leadership and Materials Management
  • Receive, unpack, and verify deliveries; check packaging integrity and expiration dates; enter receipts as required and resolve discrepancies (shortages, overages, damaged goods) in a timely manner
  • Monitor and reconcile inventory to ensure accurate on-hand quantities; research variances and communicate trends, backorders, and critical low-stock items to leadership
  • Inspect, clean, and stock supply and case carts; ensure items are organized, labeled, and stored to support first-expire/first-out (FEFO) practices
  • Monitor, manage, and document expired/soon-to-expire inventory; remove expired product from service, follow return/credit processes when applicable, and recommend actions to minimize waste
  • Perform routine cycle counts and inventory audits; maintain required logs and reports and support corrective actions to improve inventory accuracy
  • Process returns from procedural areas (return carts, unused supplies, loaner items as directed); restock appropriately, update inventory records, and ensure items are handled per policy
  • Support quality and safety practices, including documentation requirements, temperature/humidity monitoring as assigned, and participation in process improvement and other duties as needed
