About The Position

This position involves decontaminating, cleaning, and sterilizing surgical instruments and medical devices using approved procedures and equipment. The role requires inspecting instruments for cleanliness and functionality, assembling instrument trays, operating sterilization equipment, and maintaining accurate records. Additionally, the technician will store and distribute sterile supplies, adhere to infection control and safety procedures, collaborate with surgical teams, and stay current with best practices and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in decontaminating, cleaning, and sterilizing surgical instruments and medical devices.
  • Ability to inspect instruments for cleanliness and functionality.
  • Skill in assembling instrument trays and surgical sets.
  • Experience operating sterilization equipment (e.g., autoclaves, gas sterilizers).
  • Knowledge of monitoring sterilization cycle parameters.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of sterilization loads and inventory.
  • Understanding of storage and distribution of sterile supplies.
  • Adherence to infection control and safety procedures.
  • Collaboration skills with surgical teams.
  • Knowledge of best practices and regulatory requirements (e.g., AAMI, AORN, OSHA).

Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate, clean, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical devices using approved procedures and equipment.
  • Inspect instruments for cleanliness and functionality; report any damage or missing items.
  • Assemble instrument trays and surgical sets according to established protocols.
  • Operate sterilization equipment (e.g., autoclaves, gas sterilizers) and monitor cycle parameters.
  • Maintain accurate records of sterilization loads and inventory.
  • Store and distribute sterile supplies and equipment to the appropriate departments.
  • Adhere to infection control and safety procedures at all times.
  • Collaborate with surgical teams to ensure timely delivery and availability of instruments.
  • Stay current with best practices and regulatory requirements (e.g., AAMI, AORN, OSHA).
