Sterile Processing Tech
About The Position
As a Sterile Processing Tech, your exceptional sterilization and processing abilities provide staff with the equipment they need to perform safe and successful procedures. This role is responsible for processing and supplying sterile goods and equipment to all areas within the hospital, including decontamination, cleaning, packing, sterilizing, storing and distribution. The Sterile Processing Tech ensures appropriate supplies are used in the process of sterilizing items; collects and cleans soiled equipment, machines, carts and shelves. They also transport needed supplies, medication and equipment throughout the hospital.
Requirements
- Successfully passed a nationally accredited central service exam and holds and maintains one of the following credentials: Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician credential OR Certified Registered Central Service Technician credential
- A healthcare facility may employ or otherwise contract with a person who does not meet the requirements of the function of a Sterile Processing Technician if they are unable to employ or contract a sufficient number of qualified Sterile Processing Technicians
- Must provide evidence of employment or contract services as a Central Service Technician in a healthcare facility for a cumulative period of one year, occurring between 1/1/2011 – 1/1/2015
- Strong attention to detail with demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills
- CRCST - Certified Registered Central Service Technician - International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM)
Responsibilities
- Processing and supplying sterile goods and equipment to all areas within the hospital, including decontamination, cleaning, packing, sterilizing, storing and distribution
- Ensure appropriate supplies are used in the process of sterilizing items
- Collect and clean soiled equipment, machines, carts and shelves
- Transport needed supplies, medication and equipment throughout the hospital
