The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments and equipment used in an Orthopedic Ambulatory Surgery Center. The role supports infection prevention, instrument inventory, and efficient surgical operations by preparing and processing orthopedic instrumentation, including total joint sets. During facility startup, the technician leads the development and implementation of sterile processing workflows and works with clinical leadership, physicians, vendors, and infection prevention personnel to establish reprocessing and sterilization best practices. The technician also supports operating room readiness, staff training, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and a safe, organized sterile processing environment. The role requires a high school diploma or GED, at least two years of sterile processing experience, and current Basic Life Support certification. Orthopedic instrument processing experience is strongly preferred, as is experience with complex trays, power equipment, and total joint instrumentation.
