About The Position

This is a casual position with flexibility in hours, up to 4 per week, with the possibility of 8 hours in a given week. The Sterile Processing and Decontamination (SPD) Technician is responsible for maintaining high standards for decontamination, assembly, inspection, wrapping, and sterilization of surgical instruments and medical equipment for Surgical Services and Ancillary departments. This role involves working in conjunction with OR staff to provide timely sterile products, trays, and case carts, and maintaining consistency and continuous workflow between the Operating Room and Sterile Processing while practicing excellent customer service.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and/or GED High School diploma Required
  • CPR/Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification issued by American Heart Association Upon Hire Required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and behaviors

  • Fosters teamwork through effective written and verbal communication
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner

Nice To Haves

  • 1-3 years Instrument processing or sterile processing experience, or previous work experience in the medical field (i.e. CNA, MA, etc.) Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs decontamination of soiled instruments, sterilization containers and equipment according to established protocols.
  • Operates sterilization equipment and inspects instruments, equipment, and containers to ensure cleanliness and proper functioning.
  • Maintain quality control by monitoring, reading, documenting, and interpreting, all parameters for all types of sterilizers to insure proper function.
  • Works closely with Operating Room staff to identify supply and equipment needs for the scheduled procedures.
  • Corrects instrument sets according to current standards and established count sheets and/or instrument tracking systems.
