About The Position
The Sterile Processing Tech prepares and maintains life-preserving articles and equipment needed to support patient care and protect patient and employee safety. The position follows the direction and guidance of the Central Supply Supervisor. This is a per diem role on the day shift at SLH - CPH Main, 50 Leroy Street, Potsdam, NY 13676.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Certification by the Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) upon hire, or obtain certification within two years of hire.
- Basic understanding of various departmental functions and conscientious regard for technical and minute procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of medical terminology and nomenclature of items and equipment used by the department.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects; frequent walking, standing, or squatting.
Responsibilities
- Operate steam and ETO gas sterilizers.
- Maintain extra supplies.
- Update file cards and maintain daily records.
- Participate in continuing education programs at the hospital and in outside seminars and workshops.
