Performs a variety of instrumentation decontamination, sterilization, packaging, inventory, and distribution tasks according to established department policies and procedures. This role involves disassembling, cleaning, sterilizing, reassembling, and packaging sterile supplies according to specifications and/or manufacturer instructions. The technician will operate various sterilization equipment, adhere to instrument count sheets, and follow safety protocols. Responsibilities also include retrieving used instruments, examining them for cleanliness and functionality, identifying and reporting malfunctioning items, and filling requisitions from hospital departments. The role requires maintaining department inventory levels, ensuring a contaminant-free work environment, and documenting daily activities. Adherence to AORN, AAMI, and Joint Commission standards, as well as participation in quality control programs and in-service training, are essential. Related duties as required are also part of the scope.
