About The Position

This is a full-time PM shift (3p-11:30p) Sterile Processing Technician position with rotation weekends, on call and holidays. The pay range is $20.80 - $31.20.

Requirements

High school diploma
1 yr. SPD experience
Ability to communicate and follow directions
Computer skills
Experienced in operating sterilization equipment
Certified Central Service Tech within 90 days of hire

Responsibilities

Decontamination of Instruments and Equipment: Wears proper protective attire, follows established procedures for decontamination, sets up decontamination equipment, maintains a neat and clean work area, reports and tags malfunctioning equipment, cleans and disinfects equipment and work area at shift completion, and handles infectious waste according to hospital procedure.
Performance of Assembly/Packaging/Wrapping: Examines instruments for cleanliness and function, tests all instrumentation for correct function and insulation coating, assembles instrument sets according to tray count sheets in the Censitrac Instrument Tracking system, and packages/wraps trays/items according to manufacturer instructions for use.
Validation of Sterilization Equipment: Runs biological and bowie dick tests for sterilizers, and validates and documents each sterilization cycle in the Censitrac Instrument Tracking system using biological, chemical, and mechanical indicators.
Performance of Sterilization: Scans all items into sterilizer loads using the Censitrac Instrument Tracking system, labels each item with the correct load label, positions items on the sterilizer cart for sterilization, includes a Biological Challenge pack on the second load for each Steam Sterilizer and any load containing implants, interprets and documents data strip results, and initiates a recall if a load fails to meet specified parameters.
Performance of Inventory/Storage/Distribution Functions: Places sterile items in appropriate areas for distribution, receives supplies from warehouse and vendors, completes case carts for OR, completes case cart assembly logs and communication forms, and assists with cleaning of storage areas and workstations.
Performance of Low Temperature, Sterrad, Sterilization: Assures items are dry before assembly, utilizes Censitrac Instrument tracking system for assembly, wraps or containerizes items for sterilization, runs a daily biological test, labels items, positions items on the sterilizer cart, and interprets and documents data strip results.
Demonstration of Leadership Behaviors: Assists with daily work assignments, observes employee activities for quality control, communicates equipment malfunctions, acts as a liaison between SPD and other departments, and assists in maintaining SPD inventory.
Implementation of Quality Improvement Ideas to Enhance Operation and Team Function: Presents problem/improvement opportunities with an A3 action plan, monitors process improvement indicators, and assists in precepting new associates and students.
Communication Skill to Support the Accomplishment of Team Outcome: Understands verbal and written instructions, communicates properly with co-workers and customers, documents appropriately, collaborates with co-workers to prioritize workload, cooperates with co-workers for productive outputs, works in all areas to accomplish daily work loads, and gives and receives appropriate feedback.
Maintenance of Effective Functions in the Department: Demonstrates independent function in performing related tasks, reaches consensus with the team for productive operations, and supports team decisions.
