About The Position

CHI St. Alexius Health is seeking a Sterile Processing Tech to process instrumentation and supplies so they are suitable for patient use on a routine and emergency basis, in accordance with the mission and philosophy of St. Alexius Medical Center. The role assembles and inspects instruments, monitors sterilization testing, decontaminates equipment, and prepares instrumentation and case carts for surgical procedures. It also supports the Operating Rooms by handling calls, inquiries, and supply-related paperwork.

Requirements

• High school education or equivalent.
• Central Service Technician Certificate, or obtain the certification within two years of employment.

Responsibilities

• Assemble trays, individual instruments, and other items according to manufacturer instructions and departmental policies.
• Inspect instrumentation and equipment for cleanliness, sharpness, and proper working order.
• Monitor biological and chemical testing and record results; follow up on positive biological results.
• Disassemble, sort, soak, and decontaminate instruments and equipment in preparation for terminal sterilization, following established procedures.
• Pick and wand instrumentation and equipment needed for surgical cases and assemble case carts for routine and emergent cases.
• Prioritize cases to prevent procedure delays.
• Check in and wand unused supplies from completed cases, ensure charges are generated, and complete necessary paperwork.
• Receive and dispatch calls from the Operating Rooms and greet and direct people with inquiries.
