Position Summary The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for performing all aspects of sterile processing, including decontamination, inspection, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment in accordance with hospital protocols and manufacturer instructions. This role requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of infection control and sterilization standards, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Requirements

  • Must have CBSPD and/or HSPA certification at the time of hire.
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Experience in sterile processing or perioperative environment preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in sterile processing or as an entry-level surgical technician
  • Certified Sterile Processing Technician (CBSPD and/or HSPA) with a minimum of 2 years of experience
  • 3–5 years of experience in sterile processing with knowledge of operating room instrumentation with one year at Baystate

Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate, clean, inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Operate sterilization equipment including steam, ethylene oxide, and low-temperature gas plasma sterilizers.
  • Ensure adherence to all sterilization parameters and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Perform quality checks including biological and chemical monitoring.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Inspect sterile goods for package integrity and expiration dates.
  • Communicate effectively with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Perform additional clerical and documentation tasks as needed.
