Under the supervision of the Operating Room Manager, Administrator or Director of Nursing, and at the direction of Registered Nurses, this role performs the processing of all instruments including decontamination, sterilizing, and storing according to hospital policies and procedures. The Sterile Processing Technician assures proper care and maintenance of all surgical instrumentation and equipment. This role requires good knowledge of the principles and practices of documentation of the sterilization process and all equipment and instruments used in the Operating Room. The position requires a professional demeanor, adherence to confidentiality and HIPAA policies, and reporting of any suspected violations. Annual continuing education requirements must be fulfilled. Personal attributes include being self-directed, accountable, professional, and receptive to change, seeking guidance when needed. The role involves working under stress, requiring patience, stamina, endurance, and tact while providing excellent service. A teamwork attitude is essential, with a willingness to assist others and perform other job duties as requested. Interchangeability between the facility and hospital outpatient department may be required. Setting priorities, responding timely to issues, and ensuring desired results through consistent follow-through are key aspects of this role.
