About The Position

Baptist Health Walker Hospital, a 267-bed facility recognized by The Joint Commission, is committed to serving the diverse needs of its growing community. The hospital offers a wide range of services including bariatrics, behavioral health, cardiac care, emergency room care, gynecology, neurology, obstetrics, orthopedics, physical therapy, advanced stroke treatment, surgical care, and urology. The Sterile Processing Tech I is responsible for the cleaning, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of instruments and equipment.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of the SPD Readiness Course within the first year of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • May or may not be certified or possess completion status in the SPD Readiness Course.

Responsibilities

  • Works under the direct supervision of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Operations Specialist, or SPD Supervisor.
  • Works cooperatively with other members of the Surgical and Sterile Processing Team.
  • Demonstrates a sense of professionalism and ethical standards.
  • Completes tasks as assigned and uses appropriate resources and references for processing instrumentation and equipment.
  • Learns to work independently in an ever-changing technical environment using attained knowledge of sterilization processes.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the sterilization process, from cleaning and decontamination through packaging, sterilization, and distribution of instrument trays for surgical case carts according to pick lists or surgeon’s preference cards.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Baptist Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Baptist Health policies and procedures.
  • May or may not be certified or possess completion status in the SPD Readiness Course.
  • Participates in all unit quality control activities.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the relationship of their role to patient care.
  • Responsible for helping to maintain a safe environment for fellow team members as well as patients.
