This role involves becoming acquainted with and understanding Sterile Processing Department (SPD) procedures, including decontamination, Prep and Pack, high-level disinfection, endoscope reprocessing, sterilizing instruments, and operating SPD mechanical equipment properly and safely. Technicians will learn the process of supplying instruments and other items to the OR and ancillary departments accurately and in a timely manner. Upon completion of orientation and training, techs will be expected to inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instrument sets and procedural trays, and mechanical equipment, for the OR and ancillary departments. The role requires maintaining an accuracy of 98% or higher and productivity of 90% or higher. This position also facilitates interactions between SPD and the OR. The decisions made and interpersonal skills used by the Sterile Processing Technician must foster an environment of caring and dedication amongst employees.
