About The Position

The Sterile Processing Technician I will provide quality processed materials and equipment for safe patient care. This role requires the ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions and possess good interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all levels of the medical staff. Prior experience in the medical/surgical field or manufacturing is preferred.

Requirements

  • High School education or GED required.
  • Must become central sterile processing certified within 18 months of hire to maintain employment.
  • Must be able to follow detailed written and oral instructions.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all levels of the medical staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in the medical/surgical field or manufacturing preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Follows Standard Work in the decontamination, assembly, sterilization, high-level disinfection, and sterile storage areas to properly handle instruments/equipment to provide safe patient care.
  • Utilizes instrument/equipment manufacturer’s instructions for use when necessary.
  • Communicates and works collaboratively with other staff in the department, as well as other units.
  • Represents the department and hospital in a professional, courteous manner.
  • Attends and participates in departmental in-services, huddles, and meetings.
  • Understands key quality measures and demonstrates willingness to participate in problem solving and performance improvement activities.
  • Assists, if necessary, with the orientation of new employees.
  • Demonstrates effective time management, flexibility, prioritization, and critical thinking skills in performance of duties.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and maintains competency of standard work / key work processes.
  • Applies principles of microbiology, disinfection, sterilization, and modes of disease transmission to promote an infection-free environment.
  • Uses proper body mechanics when moving or transferring items to prevent injury to self or others.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
  • Protects patient privacy and follows hospital/departmental policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates willingness to accept non-routine work assignments as appropriate.
  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary in the performance of this position.
