We are currently seeking a Sterile Processing Technician I to support our mission of delivering safe, high-quality patient care. Missouri Baptist Medical Center, an acute care hospital in St. Louis County, offers a full continuum of medical and surgical services, including heart care, cancer, women and infants, breast health, gastrointestinal, orthopedic, stroke, therapy, wound and pain management services. The hospital has a 24-hour adult emergency department and cares for pediatric patients at a separate emergency department in collaboration with St. Louis Children’s Hospital. The Central Sterile Processing Department at Missouri Baptist Medical Center is dedicated to providing its customers with courteous and reliable service. Central Sterile Processing is responsible for the reprocessing of instrumentation and supply distribution for Surgical Services and other departments, such as Labor and Delivery and the Emergency Department.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles and processes instruments sets, trays, supplies and linen; prioritizes trays and tasks according to the surgery schedule.
  • Utilizes and troubleshoots steam sterilizers.
  • Follows proper techniques and procedures to ensure the integrity of the sterilization process.
  • Disassembles, decontaminates, and processes instrumentation according to manufacturer and industry standards.
  • Ensures instrumentation is reassembled correctly and functioning properly.
  • The Sterile Processing Technician performs a variety of central sterile processing functions, which include the decontamination, preparation, sterilization and distribution of sterile surgical instrumentation to the operating room (OR) and other areas throughout the hospital.
  • Required to maintain and control both sterile and non-sterile supplies, and identify and remedy equipment and process failures and hazards while maintaining the appropriate and complete records.
