About The Position

Responsible for the general operation and activities of the Sterile Processing and Supply department under the supervision of the Surgical Services Director. This role requires knowledge of sterile processing equipment, surgical instrumentation, and power equipment. The technician will assemble and sterilize instruments and procedural trays, verify and document missing instruments, and ensure instruments are in good working order before sterilization. Responsibilities include cleaning instruments, recording sterilizer test results, operating and maintaining steam autoclaves with diligent record-keeping, and communicating effectively with operating room personnel. The position also involves maintaining a neat and clean work area, making recommendations for improvement, demonstrating professional behavior and seeking professional growth, and performing other assigned duties. Shared call-rotation responsibility is also a component of this role.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • CRCST upon hire
  • Previous healthcare experience preferred.
  • Ability to analyze situations and recognize problems
  • Computer proficiency
  • Excellent communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Operate sterile processing equipment (washers, autoclaves devices).
  • Understand surgical instrumentation and power equipment.
  • Assemble and sterilize instruments and procedural trays for outlying offices.
  • Verify and accurately document missing instruments according to standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure instruments are in good working order prior to placing in trays and report any problems to a supervisor.
  • Clean instruments to prepare them for sterilization.
  • Record sterilizer test results.
  • Operate and maintain steam autoclaves, keeping diligent records of loads completed, items in loads, and maintenance procedures performed.
  • Effectively communicate with operating room personnel and others.
  • Keep work area neat and clean.
  • Make recommendations to management for possible improvement.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to competent professional behavior and practice.
  • Engage and seek opportunities for professional growth.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Share call-rotation responsibility.
