About The Position

The Sterile Processing Department is a fast-paced work environment. Upon hire, Team Members are expected to attend a 90-day orientation. While on orientation, techs will attend an SPD 101 class where educators will teach the Sterile Processing Department standard of work and regulations. Techs will also have a preceptor while on orientation. Technicians will assemble case carts according to surgery schedules. This will include sterile instrumentation according to patient procedure. When completed, technicians will transport case carts to the OR and place in designated areas. Depending on the hire site in Grand Rapids, Sterile Processing Departments can anticipate 40-90 surgical cases. Sites may include small differences but can expect the same job duties with expectations. Team members can also expect to wear surgical attire in the department. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 2 years of relevant experience sterile processing technician experience or related sterile processing required
  • CRT-Sterile Processing Distribution Tech (CSPDT) - CBSPD Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution required or CRT-Registered Central Services Technician, Certified (CRCST) - IAHCSMM International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management required
  • CRT-At least one License and/or Certification in area of specialty - Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS), Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER), Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL), Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER), Certified in Sterile Processing Management (CSPM) required

  • 3 years of relevant experience sterile processing technician experience or related sterile processing

Responsibilities

  • Assists in overseeing and directing the work flow of the Sterile Processing Technicians as well as equipment and supply issues in work area in accordance with established policies, procedures and Association of Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) standards.
  • Provides input into the staff evaluations and assists with staff development on shift, as appropriate.
  • Acts as a role model and resource to peers and other members of the health care team related to processing of equipment, instruments, and supplies.
  • Accurately differentiates between instruments functionality and its specialty.
  • Monitors performance of sterilizers, sonic, utensil washers and other equipment and fills out repair requisitions as necessary.
  • Performs the function of a Sterile Processing Technician including inspecting, disinfecting, assembling, processing and distributing patient care instruments, equipment, and supplies.
