About The Position

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, licensed independent practitioner or manager, this role supervises and coordinates all aspects of the sterile processing function for medical/surgical supplies and equipment. This includes decontamination, assembly, sterile processing, sterile storage, and distribution. The position involves monitoring all sterilization equipment, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and ensuring an adequate inventory of supplies. The supervisor will also assist in interviewing and hiring new employees, and provide supervision and training to staff.

Requirements

  • Certification as a Registered Central Sterilization Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or Surgical Tech certification (CST or TS-C or CORST)
  • Current CRCST, CSPDT, CST, TS-C or CORST Certification for continued employment
  • Minimum of three (3) years sterile processing experience
  • Previous experience with a personal computer
  • High school Diploma or equivalent
  • Lifting 20-50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous work experience in an academic medical center environment
  • Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Management, Business Administration or closely related field
  • Completion of the International Association of Healthcare Central Services Material Management (IAHCSMM) curriculum

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and coordinates all aspects of sterile processing function of medical/surgical supplies and equipment to include decontamination, assembly and sterile processing, sterile storage and distribution.
  • Monitors all sterilization equipment.
  • Maintains a clean, safe environment and ensures an adequate inventory of supplies.
  • Assists in interviewing and hiring new employees as needed.
  • Provides supervision to staff and training of new employees.
  • Supervises, manages and evaluates assigned personnel.
  • Coordinates staff to ensure efficient use of resources i.e. time, equipment, supplies, and personnel.
  • Ensures compliance with accreditation and infection control standards.
  • Develops routine assignments for each shift and ensures adequate staffing to maintain operation (Central Sterile Processing only).
  • Serves as liaison with main campus Central Sterile operation (Ambulatory site only).
  • Functions under the direction of RN or independent practitioner in providing indirect patient care, emotional support and problem solving all in accordance with hospital and unit policies/procedures.
  • Daily operational functions and communications with physicians, patients, staff and related departments in support of patient needs and unit operations.
