About The Position

Position Summary: The supervisor of Sterile Processing is an actively certified Sterile Processing Technician who is responsible for overseeing operations resources by planning, organizing, and providing sterile processing services for the OR and other departments. The supervisor fosters a supportive and professional environment for staff. They are responsible for overseeing supply and instrument inventory including procurement, process, and repair. Supervises the day-to-day operations of the department on all shifts. The SPD department is responsible for the decontamination of specific equipment and instruments used throughout the hospital as well as reprocessing and/or sterilizing those items in addition to those used in surgery. The SPD supervisor promotes an environment of cooperative staff efforts within the unit and with other units, especially the operating room as well as maintaining regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Current CRCST or CBSPD certification.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal direction.
  • Completion of an accredited certified SPD Technician training program. Certification from Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).
  • Two (2) or more years in an SPD leadership role (informal or formal).
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience as a Sterile Processing Technician and/or Surgical Technician.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff in an organization. Demonstrates understanding of all aspects of perioperative services in an acute care setting.
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
