About The Position

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Sunnyvale is seeking a Sterile Processing Supervisor to supervise certified central services technicians. The role involves preparing and tracking all sterilization of equipment and instruments accurately and in a timely manner. The supervisor will assist in training technicians to adhere to AAMI and AORN standards, oversee operating room case carts, sterile trays, and supplies for the operating room and other hospital areas as needed. Responsibilities include updating count sheets for instrument trays, tracking IUS and sterilization logs to decrease IUS rates, and creating cost-effective methods within the department in collaboration with the inventory control coordinator. The supervisor will also oversee students in the sterile processing area and be responsible for maintaining and reporting monthly sterilization data to the Director of Surgery, along with any additional duties assigned by the Director of Surgery.

  • HS diploma or GED.
  • BLS from AHA.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years experience in a supervisory role.
  • Minimum 3-5 years in sterile processing.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise certified central services technicians in preparing and tracking sterilization of equipment and instruments.

  • Perform quality control through routine testing and cleaning to assure sterilization equipment and instruments are functioning properly.
  • Inspect equipment, instruments and packaging for cleanliness, defects, and/or malfunctions.
  • Oversee documentation and labeling of sterilization cycles/packages.
  • Follow and teach AORN/AAMI/JCAHO guidelines for sterilization processes.
  • Supervise others carrying out sterilization processes.
