About The Position

The CSPD Quality Assurance Coordinator/Technician supports the quality, safety, and efficiency of sterile processing operations through auditing, data analysis, competency assessment, quality monitoring, and continuous process improvement. This role identifies and addresses process gaps, maintains accurate quality records, supports regulatory compliance, and partners with Sterile Processing and Operating Room teams to ensure instruments, trays, equipment, and services consistently meet established standards and patient safety expectations.

Requirements

  • Minimum five (5) years of Sterile Processing experience
  • IAHCSMM/HSPA or CBSPD Central Sterile Processing Technician Certification
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ortho & Neuro Experience- required
  • Sonar and Tray Audit Experience- required
  • Proficient with Word, Excel, and Asset management systems
  • Must be able to work in a cooperative manner
  • Ability to comply with SIPS' Attendance Policy
  • Thorough knowledge of the operation of instruments and equipment in the department.
  • Thorough knowledge of aseptic technique principles and ability to apply such principles when orienting staff at hospitals.
  • Have knowledge of and the ability to stay in compliance with applicable infection control policies and procedures.
  • Willingness to participate in the continuous, quality improvement activities of the department and institution.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts day-to-day quality assurance activities, including field issue capture, reliability testing, receipt and evaluation of products/instruments, analysis of findings, and preparation of reports for management review.
  • Monitors instrument inspection, assembly, sterilization, case cart accuracy, and documentation processes, providing real-time feedback and corrective guidance to maintain quality and patient safety.
  • Tracks quality metrics, audit findings, and performance trends; assists leadership with root-cause analysis, corrective action plans, and continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Serves as a resource and mentor to sterile processing staff, reinforcing standardized workflows, manufacturer instructions for use (IFUs), and best practices through observation, coaching, and hands-on education.
  • Supports the development and maintenance of the Quality Information System (QIS) through accurate data collection, statistical analysis, trending, and reporting of quality and operational performance indicators.
  • Performs routine procedure and tray audits, evaluates instrument condition and functionality, identifies quality concerns, and documents findings and corrective actions to support continuous improvement.
  • Monitors sterile processing services for quality, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, regulatory compliance, and adherence to organizational policies, AAMI standards, manufacturer IFUs, and accreditation requirements.
  • Partners with Sterile Processing and Operating Room teams to support point-of-use treatment, instrument return processes, tray accuracy, and safe transition of instruments back to Sterile Processing.
  • Applies appropriate cleaning, disinfection, aseptic, and sterile processing techniques while identifying opportunities to improve workflow, standardization, and patient safety.
  • Assists with staff education, in-services, competency validation, and onboarding under the direction of management, reinforcing quality expectations and standardized processes.
  • Maintains instrument and equipment calibration records, testing documentation, procedures, and quality control requirements, ensuring documentation remains current and audit-ready.
  • Other duties as assigned.
