About The Position

The Sterile Processing Manager directs and manages care and operational support for Sterile Processing and Perioperative Materials Management. Responsibilities include staff management and performance improvement, cost controls, budget preparation, Lean process improvement, and materials management. The manager collaborates with customers to support service-line productivity and ensures timely procedural setups and transports, equipment availability and function, environmental cleaning, and sanitation. The role monitors shift supervisors and staff efficiency while ensuring compliance with infection-control policies and OSHA, AAMI, AORN, and Joint Commission standards. The position is based at Inova Fairfax and is listed as full-time, days, with a flexible schedule to help cover evening needs. The manager oversees staffing, department operations, supplies and equipment, service quality, and compliance, and partners with leaders across perioperative services and related departments.

Requirements

Three years of experience in an OR/SPD leadership or management role.
Knowledge and experience in perioperative sterile processing, case preparation and cleanup, perioperative materials management supplies and equipment, and environmental standards.
Two years of experience in each subspecialty or two years of cross-training.
Obtain Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician certification within 12 months; CBSPT and CRCST certifications must be obtained within one year of hire.
Must be eligible to take the certification exam.
Must gain proficiency in OSHA, ANSI/AAMI, and IAHSCSMM standards.
Education: Associate degree, or high school diploma or equivalent plus four additional years of experience (six years total).

Responsibilities

Maintain productive relationships with sales representatives and use promotional offerings and cost-reduction initiatives.
Provide analytical data to end users and facilitate decisions about set configurations, par levels, and preferred vendors.
Work with the Perioperative Services Manager or other designated leaders to evaluate products, negotiate contracts, acquire equipment and supplies, and arrange training and support.
Coordinate equipment service, deliveries, installations, and necessary facility renovations or repairs.
Develop, prepare, and maintain staffing patterns that provide 24-hour support for Sterile Processing, procedural setup, and cleaning.
Manage the Automated Nurse Staffing Office System, InovaPass, enterprise resource planning, monthly staff schedules, vacation requests, and payroll.
Monitor clinical practices for compliance with standards and effective operational protocols.
Improve service and reduce inappropriate variations and errors; evaluate service delivery and identify safe, cost-effective solutions, techniques, systems, and procedures.
Partner with designated leaders in Operating Room Support, Technology, and Unit Management to support a collaborative management model for ancillary services.
Oversee operational activities of Sterile Processing and Perioperative Materials Management staff to ensure effective and efficient practices.
Oversee Sterile Processing operations, including hiring and training team members, implementing business strategies, managing performance, and delegating tasks.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
