STERILE PROCESSING LEAD
About The Position
This is a Full Time, 40 hours per week position for a Sterile Processing Lead. The schedule is Monday – Friday, 0700 – 1530, with on-call responsibilities. The role requires expertise in all aspects of the sterile processing cycle, the ability to provide guidance and education to SPD employees, and to assume the responsibilities of the Sterile Processing Supervisor when assigned. The Lead will assist the Sterile Processing Supervisor with maintaining department production, managing case carts, communicating instrument needs, ensuring equipment functionality, maintaining compliance logs, and assisting with departmental policies and special projects. The position also involves protecting oneself and others from bloodborne and airborne diseases by following approved policies and procedures.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Two years' experience in Sterile Processing
- Certification as a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT), or other sterile processing certification required
- Ability to stand for long periods
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
- Ability to work with computer programs such as Excel and others as needed
- Ability to order instruments via PeopleSoft
Nice To Haves
- Certification in Sterile Processing Management strongly encouraged within three years of hire
Responsibilities
- Expert in all aspects of the sterile processing cycle and ability to provide guidance and education to SPD employees.
- Assumes role and responsibilities Sterile Processing Supervisor when assigned.
- Assists Sterile Processing Supervisor with maintaining department production requirements by leading and directing SPD employees.
- Assists with case carts management and communicates issues to the Sterile Processing Supervisor.
- Uses excellent communication skills when discussing instrument needs with Sterile Processing Supervisor, SPD Liaisons, and/or OR Clinical Coordinators.
- Ensures that all equipment is functioning optimally and report issues to the Sterile Processing Supervisor and/or the appropriate department.
- Assists the Sterile Processing Supervisor with maintenance of departmental compliance logs.
- Assists SPD Manager with implementation and enforcement of departmental policies.
- Assists with special projects and interdepartmental committees as assigned.
- Protects self, co-workers and facility by following approved policies and procedures to prevent the spread of bloodborne and/or airborne disease(s)
