As a Coordinator within Sterile Processing, you will play a vital role in supporting one of the nation's leading academic medical centers by ensuring the right instruments, implants, and supplies are available when and where they are needed. Working closely with Sterile Processing, Operating Room leadership, Supply Chain, and vendor partners, you will help maintain the seamless flow of critical surgical inventory that supports high-quality patient care. Sterile Processing Coordinator performs a variety of administrative, inventory management, purchasing, and operational support functions for the Sterile Processing Department. This role serves as a key liaison between Sterile Processing, the Operating Room, Supply Chain, and external vendors to ensure the timely procurement, tracking, and availability of surgical instruments, implants, and supplies. Responsibilities include inventory replenishment, par-level management, purchasing support, receiving and inspection of supplies, cycle counting, discrepancy resolution, inventory analysis, special order coordination, and customer service. The position requires a strong understanding of inventory control processes and the unique operational relationship between Sterile Processing and perioperative services.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • One year of experience in purchasing, inventory management, supply chain operations, healthcare logistics, or a related field preferred.
  • No licensure required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and maintain inventory levels of surgical instruments, implants, and medical supplies within Sterile Processing.
  • Monitor stock levels and replenish inventory to ensure uninterrupted support of surgical and procedural services.
  • Manage department par levels and recommend adjustments based on utilization trends and operational needs.
  • Conduct routine cycle counts and inventory audits to maintain inventory accuracy.
  • Investigate, reconcile, and resolve inventory discrepancies and variances.
  • Generate, review, and analyze inventory reports to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Process special order requests and coordinate delivery timelines with internal stakeholders and vendors.
  • Assist with purchasing activities to ensure timely procurement of supplies and equipment.
  • Collaborate with vendors to secure high-quality products, dependable service, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Verify incoming shipments for accuracy, completeness, expiration dates, and visible damage.
  • Coordinate resolution of supply issues, shortages, backorders, and delivery concerns.
  • Maintain purchasing records and documentation in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Serve as a resource for Sterile Processing and Operating Room staff regarding inventory and supply-related questions.
  • Support departmental quality assurance initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Assist with special projects, data collection, reporting, and process improvement activities.
  • Develop and maintain effective inventory management practices and standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and department standards.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with clinical, operational, and supply chain teams to support patient care and operational excellence.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, training, and professional development activities.
  • Maintain required competencies and knowledge related to inventory control and healthcare supply chain operations.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
