The Sterile Core Technician is responsible for assuring that all supply carts, par level carts, instrument sets, single peel packs and emergency supplies meet established quotas both qualitatively and quantitatively and delivered to the surgical core(s) or surgical suite in a timely manner. This role provides patient care and treatment under the direction of an RN/MD, assists with Operating Room turnovers, and ensures that all areas of responsibility are cleaned according to established procedures. The technician also assists with Case Cart Set Up, transports specimens to the lab, checks packaging for defects and expiration dates, rotates items using a first-in, first-out method, and handles items aseptically. They must understand nursing and medical terminology for supplies and instruments, verify pick lists, pull cases in order, and document items pulled, missing, or to be saved. The technician will also manage needs lists for instruments sent to SPD, inform coordinators of missing disposable supplies, and complete a priority list for instruments. Restocking supply areas and par carts to par level, adjusting par levels with the lead tech, observing aseptic technique, recognizing hazardous equipment and situations, cleaning clinical areas, and inventorying assigned locations are also key responsibilities.
