About The Position

The Stephanie Lovell Honors Program, named in honor of former First Assistant Stephanie Lovell, offers entry-level attorneys a unique opportunity to engage in law and policy within the Attorney General’s Office. This two-year fellowship program, beginning in September 2027 and ending in September 2029, is an initiative of the office’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. It aims to expand opportunities for new lawyers and attract candidates from diverse backgrounds, reflecting the communities served by the office. The Attorney General's Office handles a wide range of practice areas, including civil rights, health care, consumer protection, environmental protection, criminal prosecution, fair labor, administrative law, data privacy, and constitutional defense. Fellows will gain experience in various practice areas through three rotations, receiving training and guidance from experienced attorneys. The program allows new attorneys to launch their legal careers, enrich their legal experience, broaden their public sector exposure, and assume substantial individual responsibility. Fellows may have the opportunity for continued employment after the fellowship. Participants must commit to the two-year term and pass the Massachusetts bar exam by July 2027, with admission required before the second-year rotation.

Requirements

Third-year day or fourth-year evening law students scheduled to graduate in 2027.
Current full-time judicial law clerks who received their J.D. prior to 2027 and either began their clerkship upon graduation or accepted and deferred for up to one year without practicing as an attorney before beginning their clerkship.
Commitment to a two-year term.
Must take the Massachusetts bar exam no later than July 2027.
Must be admitted to the bar before the start of their second-year rotation.
Academic and intellectual ability.
Knowledge, experience, and ability in legal areas such as research, advocacy, trial preparation, discovery, investigation, negotiation, etc.
Legal, professional, or personal experience related to the mission of the Attorney General’s Office.
Demonstrated engagement and leadership in school and/or community activities.
Strength of writing and editing skills and substantive experience with legal writing and editing through law school activities (e.g., law journal or equivalent) or internships.
Commitment to the diverse communities the office serves.
Flexibility and interest in a variety of legal subject areas.
Demonstrate a commitment to public interest law.
Demonstrate a connection to the people and communities served.
Demonstrate an interest in supporting a respectful and inclusive work environment.

Responsibilities
