About The Position

The Step Technician performs a variety of production activities within the Step Department, including cutting materials, assembling components into finished steps, and preparing products for final disposition. This role supports efficient production while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • Ability to read and understand simple instructions.
  • Ability to write basic correspondence and communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors.
  • Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and interpret basic bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common-sense reasoning to follow written, oral, or diagram-based instructions and solve routine problems.

Responsibilities

  • Selects and enters appropriate programs from saw memory banks to achieve required cuts and quantities.
  • Installs T-nuts into side plates and backs.
  • Lays out, positions, aligns, and assembles components using fixture jigs.
  • Operates radial arm saws to cut 2x2 and 2x4 materials for work-in-process and final assemblies.
  • Prepares fully assembled steps for the spray booth.
  • Applies and rolls sprayed coatings to ensure a smooth, even finish.
  • Trims excess material and grinds step bottoms to achieve a smooth finish.
  • Double-stacks, wraps, and transfers finished steps to the warehouse for storage.
  • Conducts quality inspections and repairs defects on finished products as needed.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Follows all company safety rules and procedures.
  • Performs all tasks in accordance with established work instructions.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
