The Iona University Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) is a STEM enrichment program for students in grades 7th – 12th. The Medical Summer Camp will run for the month of July (7/6/26 – 7/24/26). This role addresses the gap in STEM education by providing students with opportunities to enhance skills for success in their academic and future careers. The instructor will establish innovative ways to create a welcoming place for all students, introduce students to various modern medical treatments through interactive lectures and in-class assignments, and help them understand the connections between science and medical treatments. The position involves examining the functioning of medications, introducing students to basic clinical duties (e.g., pre-op patient interview), and demonstrating the use of medical simulation equipment. Additionally, the role includes introducing students to anatomy laboratories, providing basic suture training and CPR training, guiding research projects on modern medical treatments, and coordinating medical/health-related field trips. The instructor will also monitor and address student concerns, evaluate student work, and write evaluations. This position works in close collaboration with the STEP Director, STEP Assistant Director, and STEP Student Advisor, and performs other duties as assigned.
