About The Position

The Upward Bound Math & Science (UBMS) Program at Virginia Union University (VUU) is seeking a STEM Instructor/Tutor to provide academic support and hands-on STEM instruction to participating scholars. This role involves tutoring during the academic year and leading STEM instruction during the UBMS Summer Academy. The UBMS program aims to prepare high school scholars for college success with a strong emphasis on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field).
  • Experience teaching or tutoring STEM subjects.
  • Ability to create engaging STEM learning experiences.
  • Experience working with high school students.
  • Must be able to lift 10 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with TRIO programs or college access programs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide tutoring support in math and/or science to UBMS scholars.
  • Lead STEM instruction during the UBMS Summer Academy.
  • Develop and facilitate engaging STEM activities and lessons.
  • Assist scholars with STEM coursework and academic skill development.
  • Maintain tutoring attendance records and report scholar progress to the UBMS Director.
  • Encourage student interest in STEM careers and college pathways.
  • Participate in program activities and meetings when requested.
