About The Position

The STEM Graduate Career Specialist will provide direct service to students, meeting the increased demand for STEM graduate student services. The objective of this position is to help students find meaningful and rewarding opportunities in employment after graduation and in continually developing their careers as alumni.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences, Education, or a related field.
2 years’ experience within higher education student advising, academic coaching or career counseling
Demonstrated experience working with diverse communities and a commitment to diversity and social justice.
Experience developing and delivering programs related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, ideally in an academic setting
Proven ability to function as a motivated, enthusiastic member of a team committed to providing excellent customer service
Demonstrated commitment to collaboratively working with students, faculty and staff individually and in groups in a positive and effective manner
Excellent organizational and group presentation skills/public speaking skills, both in-person and virtually
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
Computer literacy including ability to develop web-based resources and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Nice To Haves

Experience developing/implementing workshops or other programming aimed at supporting minoritized populations
Experience supervising and mentoring students and/or staff
Experience in employee recruitment or talent development
Experience working with employer, industry, or professional degree program stakeholders

Responsibilities

Provide individual and group career advising for STEM graduate students, focused on securing internships and employment aligned with industry expectations and technical career pathways.
Attend meetings as appropriate with various stakeholders.
Develop and deliver workshops, seminars, and asynchronous resources that support technical resumes, interviews, negotiation strategies, and job search practices specific to STEM fields.
Partner with staff and faculty in the School of STEM, and in addition alumni and business leaders, to provide opportunities for students to practice job seeking skills for technical companies such as technical resume and interview workshops, salary negotiation, and other technical industry specific job search strategies.
In collaboration with faculty, develop professional and career advising learning opportunities that integrate with graduate students’ overall educational experience.
Provide ongoing career support to alumni to enhance the value of a UWB STEM computing or engineering graduate degrees.
Utilize web-based applications, databases and editing software such as Learning Management Systems (Canvas), CRMS such as Slate and Nutshell, Web publishing such as Kentico and Marketo as tools to connect to various stakeholders including prospective employers, students, staff, faculty and Advisory Board members.
Serve as a strategic partner to employers by advising on effective recruiting strategies, engagement models, and long-term hiring goals for STEM graduate talent.
Plan and execute employer-facing events such as site visits, information sessions, and workshops that deepen engagement beyond transactional recruiting.
Track and analyze employer engagement, student outcomes, and destination data in collaboration with Office of Connected Learning/Career Services and Institutional Research.
Educate employers on UW Bothell STEM graduate degrees and recruiting services, including company presentations, job postings, recruiting events, and interviews.
Support and implement a strategic employer development plan in partnership with Office of Connected Learning/Career Services, Advancement, and School of STEM leadership.
Promote Career Services and School of STEM diversity by developing and maintaining relationships with cultural & international student clubs & organizations, offering guidance and leadership to encourage full participation in co-curricular programming.
Collaborate closely with Career Services and the School of STEM to support school and department level programming, events, and participate in advisory boards as needed.
Maintain employer CRM data and relevant marketing materials for STEM graduate career initiatives.
Monitor labor market trends and stakeholder feedback to inform program design and partnerships.
Recommend program adjustments based on outcomes data and employer engagement metrics.
Support Office of Connected Learning/Career Services and STEM Office of Graduate Studies initiatives and events.
Collaborate with STEM undergraduate academic services staff on overlapping activities.
Other duties as assigned.
