About The Position

The STEM Alliance is a Westchester-based nonprofit seeking an engaging candidate to join their collaborative team and assist with hands-on programmatic work. Their STEM Education team provides informal Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math education from preschool through adults, focusing on underserved populations through various programs and a Mobile Learning Lab. This role will be central to the launch and operation of their new Marine Education Center at Harbor Island Park, Mamaroneck. The position does not require teacher certification and is ideal for lifelong learners who are passionate and curious.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engaging, inquiry-based STEM and marine science programs for school field trips, after-school groups, summer camps, and the general public (preschool through adult audiences).
  • Deliver outreach programs directly in classrooms and partner sites across Westchester County.
  • Collaborate with a professional tank care vendor to maintain the Center’s aquariums, touch tank, and living exhibits, ensuring compliance with New York State regulations.
  • Support the design, development, and continuous improvement of curriculum on topics such as marine ecology, animal adaptations, water cycles, climate change, wetland ecology, invertebrate biology, and acoustics.
  • Facilitate programs for community and civic groups, scout troops, summer camps, and private events.
  • Assist with daily operations of the Center, including welcoming visitors, maintaining exhibits, supporting general programming logistics, and maintaining data collection for programming outputs and outcomes.
  • Partner with other community groups and nonprofits on community outreach events, beach cleanups, and special seasonal programming.
  • Serve as an Enrichment Educator with the STEM team, providing various educational programs aligned with the broader organizational mission.
  • Participate fully in all Programs Team trainings and meetings to ensure work meets quality standards, reflects current science, and meets the needs of diverse learners.
