About The Position

The Curriculum and Instruction Coach will be held accountable for developing a coaching framework for the Network that focuses on improving instruction and learning across all content areas. This role involves collaborating with school administration, teacher leaders, and teachers to support high-quality instruction, aligning with the Network and school vision. The coach will mentor teachers in effective instructional practices through modeling, coaching, mentoring, and co-teaching, and partner with school leadership teams to implement school-wide plans for improvement. Additionally, the coach will identify professional development needs, provide training and follow-up coaching, research and prepare materials for professional development, and establish trusting relationships with teachers. Support will be provided to teachers individually, in collaborative teams, and within departments on a full range of instructional strategies. The role includes observing and providing feedback on instructional strategies, assisting with planning, sequencing, and scaffolding of instruction, and analyzing formal and informal assessment data, as well as student work. Collaboration with IDS coaches to strengthen curriculum delivery and improve the quality of instruction is also a key responsibility. Any other duties assigned by the Network Chief will also be part of this role.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years teaching experience; Bachelor’s degree.
  • Valid ISBE Teaching Certificate; Coaching experience and/or training

  • Expertise in leadership development and instructional leadership. Ability to coach directors and managers toward excellence, build capacity of content area teams and develop meaningful and high impact professional communities for teachers and school leaders
  • Strong communication skills (speaking - including presentations - listening, and writing)
  • Demonstrate high levels of instructional expertise, integrity, honesty, credibility, and the courage to make difficult yet necessary decisions
  • Effective strategic planning capabilities, including the ability to establish long-term vision and goals, and align/manage activities toward goal fulfillment
  • Strong leadership and team building skills, e.g. ability to develop high performing teams united around a clear vision for serving schools and achieving student success
  • Knowledge of operations, budget/finance, management and organizational development
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with a variety of constituent groups, including external partners, to ensure the entire system operates in the most effective manner possible to support schools and principals
  • Ability to define problems, analyze data, and outline valid conclusions and action steps
  • Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district.
  • Be Fully Vaccinated or Submit to Weekly COVID-19 Testing - Employees are required to be fully vaccinated within 30 days of their hire date. Full vaccination is defined as at least two weeks after your second shot of a two-shot vaccination course, or at least two weeks after a one-shot vaccination course. Unvaccinated staff must submit to weekly testing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a coaching framework for the Network that focuses to improve instruction and learning across the Network in all content areas
  • Collaborate with school administration, teacher leaders, and teachers to support high quality instruction throughout the school
  • To support the Network and school vision around high quality instruction
  • Coach teachers in effective instructional practices through modeling, coaching, mentoring and co-teaching
  • Partner with school’s Instructional Leadership Team, Literacy Team and administration to assist in the implementation of the school-wide plan to improve instruction and learning
  • Identify Professional Development needs for teachers and teacher teams.
  • Provide in-service training and follow-up coaching to assist classroom teachers in the use of instructional strategies
  • Research and prepare materials for professional development
  • Established a relationship of trust and confidentiality with the teachers
  • Work with teachers individually, in Teacher Collaborative Teams (Course Teams) and/or within Departments, providing support on a full range of instructional strategies
  • Observe and provide feedback to teachers on instructional strategies
  • Assist teachers with the planning, sequencing and scaffolding of instruction
  • Assist classroom teachers with analysis of school-level and classroom level formal (Interim) and informal assessment data
  • Assist classroom teachers with the analysis of student work
  • Working with IDS coaches (where available) to collaborate and strengthen areas of concern within the delivery of the curriculum
  • Assist the IDS coaches with improving the quality of instruction in the delivery of the curriculum
  • Any other duties assigned by the Network Chief
