About The Position

L&M Radiator, Inc. is a global designer, manufacturer, and distributor of MESABI cooling and heat transfer solutions that are custom-made for heavy equipment in the mining, oil, gas, construction and heavy industrial industries. We are looking for an individual to join our Steel Prep team. This position will work directly with other members in the Steel Prep department, the Steel Prep Supervisor, Welding, Assembly, and the Cage, and may work with suppliers regarding materials.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED with 1 year of experience or 2-year tech degree.
  • Valid Driver’s license.
  • 18 years or older.
  • Must be able to read blueprints.
  • Ability to understand and carry out simple oral and written instructions.
  • Must be able to read tape measures, and learn how to operate calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools.
  • Ability to communicate, in English, effectively and clearly by both written and verbal means.
  • Ability to follow instructions using SP’s.
  • Good at problem solving and finding solutions.
  • Basic computer knowledge and math skills needed.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment written math test, physical, drug and background test.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Epicor or similar ERP system.
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Assembling necessary material, prints, parts, etc. needed to complete current job orders.
  • Transporting parts and assemblies to and from assembly, steep prep and weld shop when needed.
  • Assisting department with prepping material for welding and fabricating small parts.
  • Assisting in machine shop when necessary.
  • Observing, guiding, and assisting with training.
  • Communicating with the weld shop supervisor to establish priorities.
  • Organizing prints, all necessary parts, and materials for work orders.
  • Transporting needed materials from cutting and bending or assembly to proper location within the welding shop.
  • Ensuring proper identification of material and paperwork before and during transportation between departments.
  • Ensuring all completed assemblies and proper paperwork are delivered to the proper areas.
  • Cutting blocks and assisting with other projects in machining.
  • Supporting fabricators with small jobs.
  • Tacking small jobs together and prepping parts for welding.
  • Removing mill scale from parts where necessary.
  • Operating steel prep equipment such as press brake, shears, torches, hydraulic saw, drill presses, MIG welder, forklifts, overhead cranes, and other equipment provided.
  • Ensuring accuracy and quality, following company procedures and specifications.
  • Reporting any production problems to Steel Prep Lead.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work area.
  • Assisting in other areas of production as needed and qualified.
  • Performing work in a safe manner and following all safety guidelines and procedures.
