About The Position

DIS-TRAN Packaged Substations is seeking a Steel Control Technician to join their team at the Manufacturing Facility in Port of Alexandria. This role supports the Steel Control Lead and team members in the Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and Kitting of materials for Factory Built Substation (FBS) Assembly Teams and Welding Teams. The technician ensures efficient organization and processing of materials in the Steel Area, contributing to expedited production. Responsibilities include checking critical dimensions, conducting quality checks on vendor products, reading blueprints, and operating company machinery.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent required.
Read and understand measuring devices such as tape measurer, rules, and combination squares required.
Perform simple shop math (add/subtract fractions, decimals, and whole numbers) required.
Experience applying simple hand tools such as wrenches, hammer, screwdriver etc. required.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of FBS Assembly and PFB fabrication processes and systems preferred.

Responsibilities

Attends safety meetings and follows all health and safety procedures.
Positions and aligns material, staging and kitting material using machinery, per assembly bay ahead of need.
Checks quality of incoming vendor products.
Follows all established QA/QC processes and procedures.
Maintains materials flowing through Steel laydown region.
Supports requests from FBS Assembly Teams by coordinating with the Team Lead production schedules to KIT and stage material per assembly ahead of need.
Follows established SOP’s and processes.
Communicates to the Team Lead what can be improved and offer solutions.
Collaborates with the Assembly, Warehouse, and Project Teams concerning material receiving and shipping issues.
Communicates to the Team Lead what is not going right.
Recognizes, sets up, and operates hand and common power tools.
Moves parts safely into position, manually or with hoists or cranes.
Operates all machinery and equipment, including the Company’s forklift.
Keeps the warehouse property in order, including regular and preventative maintenance on Company equipment and machinery.
Supports all departments within the Logistics Team when needed.
