About The Position

This role involves performing work in all areas of pressure steam systems across the Institute. Responsibilities include installing, repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting a full range of steam, processed water, chilled water, and compressed air systems. The position is responsible for the maintenance of high- and low-pressure steam systems, including components like pressure reducing valves, traps, expansion joints, heating units, steam tables, and boilers. It also involves removing and reinstalling pumps, installing, maintaining, and servicing HVAC process systems, processed water, chilled water, and compressed air systems. The role requires responding to emergency mechanical system calls and performing all work in accordance with applicable standards and requirements of OHSA 10 and/or established compliance requirements of the authority having jurisdiction.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Five-year apprenticeship
  • Five years of experience pipefitting
  • Willingness to obtain A.S.M.E. welding certification for steel pipe
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to work from blueprints, specifications, verbal instruction, or sketches
  • Ability to work effectively and productively with minimal supervision
  • Ability to locate, diagnose and correct defects and malfunctions on a variety of pipe systems
  • Ability to electric arc weld all piping systems
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to receive work order assignments
  • Ability to provide updates on work order status and written comments provided on work orders upon completion.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, maintain, and troubleshoot steam, processed water, chilled water, and compressed air systems.
  • Maintain high- and low-pressure steam systems, including pressure reducing valves, traps, expansion joints, heating units, steam tables, and boilers.

  • Install, maintain, and service commercial and industrial HVAC process systems, processed water, chilled water, and compressed air systems.
  • Respond to emergency mechanical system calls.
  • Perform installation, maintenance, inspection, and testing in accordance with applicable standards and requirements of OHSA 10 and/or established compliance requirements of the authority having jurisdiction.
  • Work from blueprints, specifications, verbal instructions, or sketches.
  • Locate, diagnose, and correct defects and malfunctions on a variety of pipe systems.
  • Electric arc weld all piping systems.
  • Order materials and complete tasks accurately.
  • Provide updates on work order status and written comments on work orders upon completion.
