As a Steam Fitter I at the University of Iowa, you will play a hands-on role in maintaining the distribution systems that serve a university campus. Your expertise keeps buildings warm, water flowing, and operations running smoothly. This is meaningful work that directly supports thousands of people.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in mechanical system maintenance, steam fitting, plumbing, or heating
  • Knowledge of safe work procedures in confined spaces, elevated platforms, and extreme temperatures
  • Journeyman’s license in pipefitting, millwrighting, or plumbing; welding certification is a plus; or experience working with steam at pressures greater than 90 psi
  • Must be available to travel up to 10% of the time
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record; to drive company owned vehicles while on campus
  • Capable of frequently standing; walking; balancing; sitting; climbing (ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks, and the like as required); kneeling; pushing; pulling; lifting (min. 100 lbs.)
  • 24-hour emergency on-call responsibilities, must have a personal cell phone
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies

  • Welding certification is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, repair, and install distribution piping systems for steam, condensate, chilled water, domestic water, and compressed air
  • Perform preventive maintenance on pumps, fans, air compressors, expansion joints, traps, gauges, and valves
  • Operate and troubleshoot steam pressure reducing stations to ensure safe and reliable performance
  • Execute lockout and tag out procedures on equipment and distribution systems
  • Operate distribution valves for system shutdowns, startups, and repairs while protecting equipment and co-workers
  • Inspect and clean distribution structures, utility equipment, and facilities across all areas of the utility network
  • Maintain safe working conditions in compliance with site rules and local, state, and federal regulations
