About The Position

Design and implement a summer curriculum with motivating and stimulating lessons in the STEAM discipline for grades K-5. Work cooperatively with the grade-level team and attend grade-level meetings as necessary. Teachers are responsible for employing a variety of teaching methods to engage different learning styles and ability levels in the classroom, demonstrating knowledge of the curriculum, encouraging an inclusive classroom that accepts the different perspectives, backgrounds, and abilities of the students, managing behavior while eliciting a greater understanding of the world around them and maintaining a positive classroom climate. Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience and a teaching degree.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience.
  • Teaching degree.
  • Hold or be eligible for Missouri Teaching Certificate or equivalent in home country.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills necessary for working in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to integrate technology into the classroom.
  • Must pass a state and federal fingerprint background check through MACHS.
  • Must be registered, or get registered, with the Family Care Safety Registry.

Nice To Haves

  • French speakers are preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with immersion education is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Report to your designated area before school and during dismissal.
  • Unless advised otherwise, your assigned classroom is your responsibility.
  • Lead students and participate with hands-on activities, presentations and field trips.
  • Monitor students to ensure compliance of summer school rules and to prevent accidents.
  • Prepare motivating and stimulating lessons that reflect knowledge of the curriculum, child development and students’ varying abilities.
  • Lesson implementation is taken into account when making plans.
  • Encourage an inclusive classroom that accepts the different perspectives and backgrounds of the students and elicits a greater understanding of the world around them with a global perspective.
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management skills.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records.
  • Participate in classroom field trips as scheduled.
  • Create a learning environment that is positive and engaging and communicate clear expectations, routines and procedures for classwork.
  • Seek to actively know students’ strengths and weaknesses and respond promptly and with care to parent concerns.
  • Communicates effectively with parents, colleagues and administrators.
  • Employs a variety of teaching methods to engage different learning styles and ability levels in the classroom.
  • Maintain substitute plans and engage substitutes in advance when needed and when possible.
