About The Position
The Steam and Electric Plant Engineer supports task execution by applying Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFMM) and Tag-out User’s Manual (TUM) requirements to system maintenance and testing during a depot-level maintenance period. The role works within the E84 SEP Test Engineering Department throughout a nuclear ship’s maintenance cycle. The engineer gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, including laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes. The role produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings, flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics; performs detailed calculations and preliminary data analyses; uses a personal computer to conduct analyses and develop documentation; and conducts tests and records data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program; Newport News Shipbuilding requires this accreditation.
- Zero years of relevant professional/exempt experience required.
- Experience working on electrical and/or mechanical engineering projects.
- Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and schematics.
- U.S. citizenship.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
Nice To Haves
- Fundamentals of Engineering license preferred.
- Experience coordinating multi-trade projects is a plus.
- Experience applying JFMM and TUM requirements to systems maintenance and testing during a depot-level maintenance period preferred.
- Prior Nuclear Navy or shipyard experience desired.
Responsibilities
- Gather, maintain, format, compile, and manipulate technical data, including laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes.
- Produce engineering documentation, reports, drawings, flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics.
- Perform detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas and conduct preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided.
- Make quantitative judgments concerning technical data.
- Use a personal computer to perform analyses and develop documentation and reports.
- Conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.
- Apply JFMM and TUM requirements to system maintenance and testing during a depot-level maintenance period.
